J.L. HILTON is the author of the Stellarnet Series, including 2013 EPIC Award finalist for best sci-fi ebook Stellarnet Rebel (published January 2012 by Carina Press) and Stellarnet Prince (published November 2012 by Carina Press), as well as the award-winning fantasy novelette Wren & Wood: Oak Moon, The Visitor published in Dragon magazine in 1989 under the name Llynne Moore (because she was 18 and thought a pseudonym would be rad), and a free online children’s book Princess Amber’s Bed. She is an ongoing contributor to the Contact-Infinite Futures SF/SFR blog and the Charlotte Geeks.
As Jen Hilton, she designs unique science fiction and fantasy themed jewelry, sold at JLHjewelry.com, and is featured in the books Steampunk Style Jewelry and 1000 Steampunk Creations. Her graphic art has appeared on tattoos, t-shirts, and tank drums.
She has a dusty old psych degree and a collection of useless skills such as newspaper reporter/editor, calligrapher, tarot reader, poet and cake decorator. Her photographs have won awards and her tongue can tie a cherry stem in a knot. Born twenty years too soon, she cosplayed and LARP-ed back when it was just called “make believe.” Some of her real-life adventures include deciphering Mojave Desert petroglyphs, petting a tiger, visiting Thomas Jefferson’s bedroom, interviewing celebrity psychic Kenny Kingston, flying experimental military technology (for a few minutes, but it counts), nude modeling, having high tea at the Huntington mansion, studying ancient Irish history at Duke University and learning authentic Elizabethan dialect, history and costuming so she could work for a master perfume maker at a Renaissance Faire. She is the founder of both the Triangle Jewelry Makers and the Raleigh-NC Can’t Stop the Serenity charity screening to benefit Equality Now and Kids Need to Read. In addition to supporting her local CSTS, she is a 2012-2013 global sponsor.
